André Cadere; Walking With Barres

So my friend Jefferson turned me on to this artist André Cadere. I am really amazed with his work dealing with these poles which he calls “Barres”. The Idea is that he is always carrying around these works and would sometimes leave them in art spaces or at least hold them in the exhibition and social spaces. He is a mobile exhibition space for these works, this is my primary interest in the work. I mean the “Barres” are really beautiful too but I like where his sculpture medium meets this type of performance. What the Frieze article covers that I like is when they talk about how this work and artist is problematic for institutions (which isn’t that much, but it’s noted). It begs the question how does one participate in these institutions and not be held down by their capitalistic politics.
