This is a show I curated at Triple Base Gallery called Bring Your Own Art (Show). Through Internet postings, word of mouth, and various other communicable devices I asked anyone and everyone to exhibit their own art, music, and poetry for the one evening show. The result was what the show became, an anti-curitorial collage that collapsed the traditional art environment. By continuously juxtaposing art works, music, and poetry with one another the show became an ever-changing fluid environment of new ideas. In contrast with contemporary exhibitions chaotic chance was imperative to the beatnik inspired show. The context and themes demonstrated would transform as the participants would take down and put up their works, while the music and language was consistently changing. Although most art exhibitions do not give everyone the opportunity to display their own work, my attempt was to expose and corrupt the bias importance that art institutions project on singular artists and their works, thus exploring a more socialist activity; one which the participants could physically work together to achieve new and progressive dialogues within the context. 2007
